I was inspired to be a dental hygienist because my uncle was a dentist. Very young, when I was around 16 years old, after school, I would go and help him, assist, and I just fell in love with it. I like to approach dental health as whole body health. The healthier your mouth is, the healthier your body is. I like to see everyone have nice, healthy gums and not be in a state of disease.
I do enjoy patient education. Teaching people how to floss, just changing their lifestyle. I love to learn new techniques, keep up to date with new technology, and just challenge myself. I enjoy most about working with patients. Everyone is so different. Every hour, I have a new personality and a new expertise that I get to learn from and interact with. Whenever I encounter a patient who has dental anxiety, I do a lot of yoga and meditation, so I never rush them. If we need to stop and just breathe, then I work them through that, and just until they're ready and calm enough to hear what I have to say.
