When serious tooth decay or fractures put the health of a tooth in jeopardy, the ideal solution is the use of a dental crown. Dental crowns cap and protect teeth, allowing patients to bite and chew with renewed health and confidence.

Here at Brooklyn Heights Dental®, we're proud to offer same-day dental crowns, which are made possible by CEREC technology. CEREC dental restorations have a number of benefits over traditional restorations made at a lab. Let's cover the advantages of CEREC dental crowns right now.

About CEREC Dental Restorations

CEREC dental restorations are the next step forward in dental technology. Rather than relying on a dental lab to create custom tooth-colored restorations, CEREC technology allows dentists to craft these restorations at the practice.

Three-dimensional impressions are made of the patient's teeth. From these scans, custom dental crowns (as well as inlays, onlays, and porcelain veneers) are milled out of a solid block of dental ceramic. Patients can receive a tooth-colored dental crown on the same day as they visited the dentist's office.

Saves the Patient's Time

This is one of the key benefits of CEREC technology. When a dentist can bypass the need for an outside dental lab. This means that patients will not have to wait a week or two weeks for their crown. No need for a second visit. Patients save a great deal of time.

No Need for Temporary Crowns

When crafting traditional dental crowns, patients would have to wear temporary crowns for a week or so until the dental lab sent back the permanent crown. Since CEREC is essentially an efficient in-office dental lab, there is no need for temporary crowns at all. Patients simply wait a bit in the practice before the final crown is ready to place.

Saves the Dentist's Time

Dentists also save a lot of time thanks to CEREC technology. Rather than require patients to come back for multiple visits, a dental crown is fashioned there and then. This allows patients to dedicate more time to the patient's many other dental health needs.

A Proper Fit That's Carefully Designed

The digital impressions used for CEREC crowns can be carefully modified to improve the comfort of the restoration. Rather than just recreate the original structure of the tooth, a dentist can perfect the tooth, improving its size, shape, and the way it makes contact with the tooth on the opposite dental arch.

Excellent Durability of the Finished Restoration

CEREC materials are strong, comparable in quality to the materials used to make crowns at dentla labs. With a CEREC crown in place, a patient can bite, chew, smile, laugh, and speak with absolute confidence.

CEREC Ceramic Blends with Natural Teeth

In addition to great durability, CEREC crowns also look natural. The material blends in seamlessly with your natural teeth. Up close, far away, in daylight and in artificial light, it will be hard for othes to tell that you have a dental crown in place.
